Conserve Water in Your Home and Yard with These Tips

Water conservation continues to be a challenge to most households today. This may be due to the fact that most home owners don’t recognize its importance and how to observe it appropriately. If done right, water conservation can reduce the instances of pollution that happens in nearby lakes and watersheds. Moreover, it can lower the cost of your monthly water consumption.

Seal leaks in your faucets, toilets and pipes – Arrest leaks immediately because even small leaks can cause hundreds of gallons of water wasted.

Flush smartly – Do you flush just to get rid of cigarette butts or facial tissues? If you do, you are already wasting seven gallons of water in every flush. Flush only when you need too. If you think that your tank is disposing more water than the usual, have it checked and fixed by a plumber immediately.

Use water-saving shower heads – You can purchase these from a nearby hardware store. They are inexpensive and they can help you save a lot of water monthly. Another inexpensive gadget which you must consider installing is a low-flow faucet aerator. It will control your water consumption less 2.5 gallons per minute.

Turn off the shower when not needed – While soaping up, turn off the shower. Leaving it on while you’re soaping up or doing other things is wasteful. Doing so wastes around 10 gallons of water per minute. Just turn it back on when you’re about to rinse yourself.

Refrain from leaving the faucet on when cleaning vegetables or washing dsihes - This is quite self explanatory. Use basins when rinsing them.

“The point of simple living, for me has got to be: A soft place to land, a wide margin of error, room to breathe, lots of places to find baseline happiness in each and every day” ― Leo Babauta
